Meet the Cast of Midsummer! Spotlight on John St. Croix (Oberon/Theseus)

John St. Croix has been making Classics on the Rocks casts and crews break character and laugh their butts off since 2017. His Theseus is one of the most bizarrely hilarious character interpretations in our production, and we're so excited that he has returned for another season!

What's your #1 bucket list role, Shakespeare or otherwise?

Shakespeare has so many fun ones I would love to tackle! So many come to mind but right now I’m a little obsessed with Richard II and would love the opportunity to live in his tragic extravagance.

What do you do when you're not acting - or what would you do if you weren't an actor?

Well, when I’m not acting I try to spend as much time with my significant other as possible usually catching Pokémon or watching RuPaul’s Drag Race. If I wasn’t an actor I would still have to find some way to be involved in theatre, I would love the opportunity to direct and express my creativity towards creating an entire production rather than just focusing on my own piece of the puzzle and I would be curious how well I would handle that large of a responsibility.

What's your most embarrassing childhood memory (that you're willing to share)?

I don’t necessarily remember it, but my Mom always tells this story as her, “I knew my son was going to be an actor when” story. It was in a day care Christmas show where I sang so loud and hard they had to pull me out of the choir because I was so red faced and was on the verge of making myself pass out if I continued any longer, but all I wanted to do was go back up there and literally give it everything I had.

If a movie was being made of your life which actor would you choose to play you? What's the movie called?

I always imagine my life to be something very similar to the movie 500 Days of Summer, with probably a few more musical numbers and a lot worse versions of those expectations vs. reality montages. I’m not sure what it would be called or who’d play in it but as long as it’s not a lifetime made for TV movie I’ll be fine, and even if it is I’m sure it will provide my family with lots of good jokes for years to come.
