Looking Forward - Announcing our 2019 Season

Dear friends, As I reflect on the past year with Classics on the Rocks, I am in awe of the dedication, passion, and kindness within our community. This city can be a big and lonely place and I am so thankful that over the past 5 years we have had the opportunity to cultivate a safe space where actors and Shakespeare-lovers can feel nurtured, supported, and free to explore - a place to call home. This year, we worked hard to clarify the impact we'd like to have on the theatrical community. We participated in the annual New York Shakespeare Convention, ShakesCon, hosted several educational text workshops for actors, and produced two great shows Shakesday: Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered and The Winter's Tale. Looking ahead to 2019, I am filled with excitement. Our season will explore power dynamics and the unique way that Shakespeare created such authentic, prideful, and perplexing people. In the new year, we will be hosting several new workshops on cue scripts, original practices, soliloquies, and more. Our spring event, Shakesday: Pride, Power, and Promises will be a collection of Shakespeare's most intriguing characters and situations. And last but not least, I'm excited to announce that our Summer mainstage production will be the fantastical and ever-classic, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Theatre and arts communities are needed now, more than ever, to provide a safe space for people to join together as one, forge new connections, and celebrate our similarities and differences. I want to thank you for being a part of our community and for your dedication to classical theatre.

We look forward to seeing you in 2019. Cheers,

Will William Downes Artistic Director | Classics on the Rocks

#GivingTuesday - Support Live Theatre!

Classics on the Rocks strives to create a warm, friendly environment where actors and audience can come together to build community and explore the human condition through our intimately staged, bare-bones productions and workshops. Your support this #GivingTuesday will help us to continue to expand our educational programming for actors and create more performance opportunities for actors and audiences alike to explore the vivid language, timeless stories, and universality of Shakespeare. We hope you'll consider making a gift today in celebration of #GivingTuesday. All donations are tax deductible, through our fiscal sponsor Fractured Atlas and will help us continue to build our community, create space, and share our love of the bard with all.

Not able to make a financial contribution but want to get involved making classical theatre magic? We’d love your support! If you'd like to donate your time and are interested in volunteering behind the scenes (box office, admin, design, stage management, social media, PR, lighting, etc.) Please email our Managing Director, Sharon Stevens here.
